We have never seen the Peatbogs perform, but we have been sorely tempted to travel to Europe in order to do so. This assemblage from Skye mixes highland piping, fiddling, and traditional tunes into a trance/techno style with unequaled glory. Our own Nurudin MacRogue (we gave him our last name 'cos he didn't have one), on keyboards/sampling and digital things, supplies a platform of grooves and noises that highland piper Peter Morrison overlays with outrageous piping - we've considereed making Peter a "saint" since he makes our heads explode, and because we'd have a "St Peter the Piper."
The Faeries are truly at the forefront of the Scottish fusion scene. Watch this space for the realease of their second CD Faery Storied, due out on Greentrax. Our advance copy of it didn't leave the CD plater for a month. Personnel changes have left the future of this remarkable band in doubt.
Warning: Do not attempt to drive or operate heavy maninery while listening to the PBF. Severe lapses in the ability to focus on a task or to mavigate while thus engrossed have been experienced.
